Michigan veterans launch new conservative blog!

Several weeks ago a group of veterans appeared on Frontlines of Freedom, a local military and current events talker hosted by Lt. Col. Denny Gillem here in Grand Rapids.  Denny is actually one of the very first men I ever had the good fortune to work with in politics.  It was the GR Labor Day parade back in 2002, long before he was on the radio, and we were both helping an unknown south east Michigan prosecutor in his bid to become the state's first Republican Attorney General in a half-century.  Point being, he made an impression and he continues to make an impression with his listeners in west Michigan.

The veterans appearing on his program talked about a new group they were launching locally and since they've now officially launched their own blog I wanted to give them a plug here on the website.

Michigan Vets for McCain is now online at MichiganVetsforMcCain.blogspot.com.  Check them out.

There are somewhere on the order of 849,000 folks who have served or are immediately connected to those who have served here in Michigan alone.  This is a local group that's hoping to speak to their issues.

Former Republican Senate candidate and Captain (US Army Reserve) Rocky Raczkowski is working with the group alongside the dean of the Michigan Republican Party's officers, long-time Secretary Hank Fuhs.  Hank served for thirty-one years in the Air reserves.

My father served during Vietnam.  So did many of my uncles.  My brother joined the Marines right out of high school.  Another brother is at West Point right now.  My cousin Nate just joined the Marines and leaves his job with the Michigan Republican Party TODAY to head out for basic.  Two of my closest friends and one of their fathers are currently in the "sandbox," two other friends are recently returned and three others are currently stationed in different locations around the globe.

I love these guys.  All of them.  Military service runs in my family, it runs in my neighborhood and it runs through my circle of friends.  I know it runs through the Right Roots, too.  Bloggin on Down the Rogue, the Michigan Minority Report and Random Rants are all penned by veterans of our armed forces and that's probably just the short list.

Add Michigan Vets for McCain to that roster, too.  Check them out on the web and stay tuned.  And thanks, guys, for what you're doing!

    runs strong in this nation.

Those of us who have a semblance of understanding for the Constitution respect this.

I've heard it proclaimed that the Constitution is alive. I would ask: Um, sorta like the speed limit?  It's subject to changes so I don't have to pay it too much attention.

If I disrespected the speed limit with vague misrepresentation as some do the Constitution most people would have serious problems with that and understand the consequences.

The Constitution is not a living animal, anymore then the speed limit.  Its the law. It spells out the law where our military duty is concerned and binds the government in obligation to provide.  If "it's" alive it can be perverted, generation after generation until it illuminates things according to some fringe dictates.

I wonder why the Constitution and our government obligations are not taught in our schools in profound ways anymore, so that we can grow up to be more capable in our civic duties.  If this is so important and it is, we would have more of a grasp on it other then just how we 'feel' about things.  So, why...

Bless all those who have, are, and will serve.
